Correspondence and related materials on twentieth century bookbinders, 1904-1980 (bulk 1976-1980).

Correspondence with over 175 book binders active in Asia, Great Britain and Europe, Canada and the United States, and Latin America in the 1970s. The collection includes: letters from Lansing Moran and replies from binders, lists of the their work, periodical articles about them, exhibition catalogs, offprints, and some photocopies of designs. A number of European binders are represented by catalogs of exhibitions held at the Galleria of the Centro del Libro in Ascona, Switzerland. In addition, there are over 1500 color slides of contemporary binding designs and a number of transparencies. Also: issues of the periodicals Allgemeiner Anzeiger fur̈ Buchbindereien, Art et metiers du livre, Bindereport, Designer bookbinders review and Fine print, with emphasis on the years 1975 to 1978. Miscellenous itemsinclude clippings, photographs, and general information about bookbinding in addition to the files concerning the individual binders.

Lansing Moran was a bookbinder in New York City who served in the 1970s as a director of the Guild of Book Workers. In 1976 she began gathering material for an illustrated book she planned on contemporary hand bookbinding design worldwide.
